The Community Democratic Club of Plymouth, Canton, Northville, and Livonia (13 Cong. Dist.) is a perfect example of Democrats coming together for a common purpose. In 1992, legislative reapportionment created the 13th U.S. Congressional District of Michigan which included most of northwestern Wayne County, including Plymouth, Canton, Northville, and part of Livonia.
In April, 1994, the leaders of the former Canton Democratic Club joined with other Democrats active in Northville, Plymouth, and western Livonia to create a new group uniting Democrats in our community.
Originally called the "Plymouth, Canton and Northville Democratic Club," organizers sought to build a more robust, united Democratic Party to promote the party's values and interest in our community. One of the Club's early successes was the role it played in helping to elect our outstanding congresswoman, Lynn Rivers.
In 1995, the group's name changed to the "Community Democratic Club of Plymouth,
Canton, Northville, and Livonia 13th." Though the name changed, the mission
remains the same:
Our Mission:
To promote Democratic Party values, equality under the law, equal economic
opportunity, a just society for working families and equitable distribution of the fruits and economy; and, to support
candidates for public office who will support these values in public policy.
